Here is Christian… … on the company
My father is a trained architect; he stumbled into designing interiors for sailing boats and motor yachts. That’s how we started in the bathroom industry in the early 80s, my father was designing bathrooms for boats and it grew from there. I saw the chances of bringing marketing and design into the business and joined in 1990, in 2003 my father retired and we’ve kept the ball rolling.

… on quality
It’s important to make sure that products stay in the market and stay alive for a longer period of time. Trends change so quickly now a day and resources are becoming more limited. I’m trying to get people to stop producing and buying so much. I believe the way to go about it is to create fewer things but put more effort in to making. Consumers should only buy quality products, and think about saving up for something special. I feel people aren’t doing that anymore. You should set aside money and save up to buy that high quality sofa, or whatever it is you’ve always wanted. It will give you greater satisfaction and the product will last much longer.

… on beauty and aesthetics
I think this vicious cycle of constant production and purchase might not be a question of the quality of the manufacturing, there are relatively low budget products out there with a great lifecycle, but a matter of aesthetics. Most of the time we get bored with things because they don’t work aesthetically. We grow tired of them and get a notion in our heads that we need to buy new things. I feel it shouldn’t be all about the newest or latest products. It should be about quality, beauty and aesthetics.

… on passion
We immensely enjoy the experience of fine dining so we love designing tableware. The whole culture of sitting down together for a meal and sharing these precious moments is very important to us. Men’s fashion is also something we are passionate about. We emphasise on playful but classic designs and want to make men’s life a more colourful. It shouldn’t be all black, grey and navy. Getting dressed should be a joyful experience; we want to put a smile on people’s face when they are picking out their tie or scarf in the morning.

… on the process of design
We try to look back on the history of our products. Even though we work on a high level of communication and technology today, it doesn’t mean our forefathers didn’t come up with some pretty smart ideas back in the day. We go to museums and see how bathtubs were designed and how glassware was produced. Back then only noble families were able to afford to hire craftsmen to produce these products for them. But they were quite often much richer in terms of details and fineness than todays products. We always try to look for the archetype and get an understanding of history, bring it to the presence with the technology of today and make it affordable for a larger group of people.

… on strength
Our main strengths are the long lasting partnerships and collaborations within the team. We have some members who have been with us for up to 25 years. And at the same time we are very open, and have a constant flow of placement students joining us, lending a fresh perspective to Sieger. Knowing that when we started we were 5-15 years younger than our customers and today we might be 5-15 years older than them, we need to make sure our team gets plenty of inspiration and a fresh take on things, it’s not just us old guys calling all the shots.

… on their stunning office space
We didn’t collaborate with an interior designer on HARKOTTEN CASTLE, it’s all our own work. We are very fortunate to be able to use this beautiful castle for an office every day. It’s our beauty factory, we create aesthetics every day and we needed a stimulating surrounding, not just for us, but also for our customers and visitors to give them a feeling and understanding of what we do.

… on inspiration
You have to keep moving, and keep your eyes and ears open. For me, inspiration is everywhere; going to the theatre, flicking through a magazine, visiting fairs, or walking through the high street. There is no output without input, we have to have an open mind, and allow ourselves to be impressed.
