I plan to visit various cities in Asia – this is where interesting hotels are opening up. The trend is towards smaller hotels, and the potential in Asia Pacific is enormous. From the beaches of Vietnam to the more remote parts of China; from urban gems in Hong Kong to tea plantations in India and Sri Lanka, the search for chic travel experiences continues.

Zimbabwe – this is the awakening safari titan. Investments have been made in the last two years with new luxury hotels and lodges being added regularly. The newly rebuilt Victoria Falls Airport is also set to open this year to welcome wide bodied aircrafts, which means easier access for those with time constraints as well as a new portal for regional tourism. Also, the price is still very reasonable and World Heritage sites like Mana Pools National Park and Victoria Falls are rapidly gaining in popularity. Wilderness Safaris is opening a luxury camp next year called Linkwasha Camp in Hwange. Another absolutely breathless place in Zimbabwe is Singita Pamushana – it’s Africa in one nature reserve.

Ecuador is a country that often takes people by surprise. While it’s long been known for its most famous attraction, the Galapagos Islands, tourism in the rest of the country is only now beginning to take off. And those who take the time to visit are in for a real treat. Even for its relatively small size, Ecuador is home to incredible geographic and cultural diversity and to some of the best hotels in South America. Within just three hours’ drive of the country’s colonial capital of Quito, you can find pristine cloud forest, active volcanic highlands, and picturesque Andean indigenous towns. Two of my favourite properties are Mashpi, a contemporary lodge practically ‘floating’ in the middle of the cloud forest, and the charming and elegant Hacienda Zuleta, a 17th century working ranch which feels like taking a step back in time. There is no other country in South America where so many things are so accessible, and I can’t imagine a better place to experience the essence of South America in a single visit.
