Hong Kong’s cultural calendar would not be complete without deTour, which has established itself as an innovative occasion since it was first founded in 2009. Its accessible and action-packed programme of events perfectly complements Business of Design Week’s agenda, which runs concurrently. Home Journal is also proud to announce an official media partnership with the event this year.

deTour’s 2016 edition will explore the theme Game Changer, examining the countless ways that design can alter our attitudes and behaviour through an impressive presentation of installations, pop-up exhibitions, workshops, daily dialogues, guided tours, and plenty more events across town.

For our round-up of what not to miss, read on:

VI System

Change the game – literally – with Hong Kong-based design collective Trilingua’s circular ping pong table that adds new dimensions to a conventional table tennis match, allowing participants to play in any direction and upping the fun factor while they’re at it.

Intense:Intense

This joint exhibition, created by typeface designers Joe Chang from Taiwan and Hong Kong’s Julius Hui, explores the visual impact of typography. Curated by design studio OVAL/Tamago Yeh, the showcase compares and contrasts the ways in which different fonts can alter their message. The exhibition will also be supported by workshops and talks.

Indigo Rain

Over the course of the festival, this exhibition by Hong Kong Design Studio’s Yeung Chin will be perpetually evolving to highlight the ever-changing relationship between fashion and nature. Drops of indigo dye will fall onto rolls of fabric for an ephemeral and organic act of creation.

deTour runs from 24 November to 4 December at PMQ.
