Two fundamental geometric forms – the circle and the square – converge to create a striking new campus centerpiece in Morocco.

Centre de Congrès, an impressive 11,500-square-meter conference center, is one of Bofill Taller de Arquitectura's latest works for Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique's Rabat campus. The firm employs these basic geometric shapes to craft a distinctive architectural statement that anchors the university's new location.

Strategically positioned between two phases of the campus masterplan, the building seamlessly connects different campus zones. A sweeping circular wall envelops a central square auditorium, with the space between these contrasting geometries housing smaller auditoriums, meeting rooms, cafes, and circulation areas. This simple yet powerful concept generates complex spatial relationships while maintaining clear organisational logic.

Porticos line the perimeter, featuring vibrant tile materials that flow seamlessly from exterior paving into interior lobbies. Grand arches carved into the circular wall create dramatic openings, framing picturesque views of surrounding courtyards, playing fields, and wooded areas.

The geometric clarity extends beyond formal composition to functional programming. The building adeptly accommodates academic lectures, industry conferences, and public events while serving as a central gathering point for the university community.
