This cosy space is not a home; it's the headquarters of the Beijing-based CUN Design.

Formerly the 491 Radio Station, a radio station in China, the building is an architectural canvas rich with potential, think soaring ceilings and exposed structural elements, serving as the perfect foundation for reinvention.

The restoration, led by creative director Cui Shu, aims to preserve this inherent beauty while introducing a thoroughly modern aesthetic.

Exposed concrete walls and weathered metal accents coexist with sleek glass partitions, creating a visual dialogue between old and new.

At the heart of the space, an atrium serves as both design showcase and functional centrepiece. Cleverly cut skylights cast ever-changing geometric patterns across the floor, transforming natural light into a dynamic art installation. This interplay of light and shadow continues with the artificial lighting system, which juxtaposes warm, flame-inspired fixtures against cooler, concealed LEDs.

For a studio that values adaptability, flexibility reigns supreme. Modular furniture and movable partitions allow for easy reconfiguration, adapting to the fluid needs of creative teams. Traditional craftsmanship finds its place alongside cutting-edge technology, exemplified by vintage storage racks sitting comfortably next to precision-engineered workstations.

Perhaps most intriguing is the design's embrace of temporal change. Copper elements are expected to develop a patina, while integrated moss installations will grow and evolve. It's a space designed to age gracefully, developing character long after the designers have moved on.
