Sixty years ago, renowned Danish architect Arne Jacobsen designed a modest chair called the Series 7 for furniture brand Republic of Fritz Hansen. The simple yet elegant chair ended up being the most-sold stackable chair in history, with more than seven million pieces sold across 100,000-plus styles. This month, home furnishings store Colourliving celebrates the iconic chair’s 60th anniversary (along with its own 15th anniversary) with the exciting exhibition 7 Stars x 7 Series, which runs until December 31.

The event is a spin-off of a unique exhibition, 7 Cool Architects, which toured throughout Europe. To commemorate the creation of the classic chair, Fritz Hansen invited seven of the world’s top architects and their teams – Bjarke Ingels, Carlos Ott, Carlos Ponce de León, Jean Nouvel, Jun Igarashi, Neri & Hu and Zaha Hadid – to come up with their unique takes on the classic chair.

For 7 Stars x 7 Series, seven acclaimed local designers and architects were invited to do the same. They include design pioneer Alan Chan; G.O.D.’s Douglas Young; Dennis Chan, the founder of jewellery brand Qeelin; architect and interior designer William Lim; up-and-coming interior designer Joyce Wang; visual artist and designer Stanley Wong, also known as Anothermountainman; and Shanghai Tang designer Fabien Blachier.

Catch the intriguing designs until December 31 at Colourliving’s newly revamped flagship store at 333 Lockhart Road in Wan Chai. Open 9.30am to 7.30pm (Monday to Saturday) and 10.30am to 7.30pm (Sundays and public holidays).
