Hong Kong lifestyle brand LALA CURIO has collaborated with Singapore-based Jessica Wong Studio on an installation called the Moonlit Room, centred around the studio's modular XUAN Table design.
Located within LALA CURIO's flagship boutique at The Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong, the installation showcases the XUAN Table (「旋」桌) alongside a collection of objects designed for traditional Chinese gatherings.

The XUAN Table, originally designed by Jessica Wong Studio in 2016, takes design cues from the Baxian Table (八仙桌), historically known as the "Table of Eight Immortals". The piece uses a geometric system that allows it to function as a console, triangular table, or square dining table.

Wong's work employs precise angles and modular components that can be reconfigured depending on use. The table's versatility reflects the adaptable nature of traditional Chinese furniture, where pieces often served multiple functions within domestic spaces.
For the Hong Kong installation, LALA CURIO has created a theatrical setting featuring embroidered peacock motifs, crystal lighting fixtures, and hand-painted wallpaper. The design aims to reference traditional Chinese decorative arts while providing a contemporary retail environment.

The collaboration includes a collection of nine objects called "Moonlight Harmony", designed around the theme of Mid-Autumn gatherings. Items include a handpainted cork mahjong mat, bespoke mahjong tile case, moonlit porcelain planters, lacquer tea tray, crystal photo frame, crane sculptures, stone bookends, decorative boxes, and moonstone napkin rings.

Materials across the collection include traditional lacquerwork, porcelain, and semi-precious stones. Each piece references elements of Chinese material culture, from gaming traditions to ceremonial dining.

"We wanted to create not just a setting, but a moment – where craftsmanship becomes storytelling and design becomes memory," said Laura Cheung Wolf, founder of LALA CURIO.
Jessica Wong noted the collaboration's focus on gathering rituals: "This collaboration is a celebration of gathering, where lanterns glow, Mahjong tiles dance, and the timeless act of coming together finds a new stage."
