SLD brings Japanese elegance to Wanchai with MINATO, a stunning teppanyaki spot where sleek design, refined flavours, and natural serenity collide.
Nestled in bustling Wanchai, MINATO is the latest teppanyaki destination redefining Japanese dining with a blend of old and new.
Dreamed up by Steve Leung Design Group (SLD), this 4,000-square-foot teppanyaki haven channels the Japanese aesthetic of "Ma" through four serene landscapes: Mountain, Forest, Stars, and Moon.
From the moment you approach MINATO’s striking black façade, framed by Japanese lightbox panels, you are met with artistry in motion.
Two captivating installations—a wrapped stone symbolising Wagyu beef and a wabi-sabi iron bonsai—set the tone for a tranquil yet sophisticated dining experience. Inside, the design unfolds into four thematic landscapes—Mountain, Forest, Stars, and Moon—guiding guests through an immersive journey.

The sushi bar, crafted from polygonal maple wood, evokes the serenity of mountains, providing an intimate setting for eight diners.
Moving into the main dining area and teppanyaki rooms, the forest-inspired aesthetic takes over, with dark bamboo tiles and curated art pieces blending nature’s beauty with modern luxury. Sliding doors allow for versatile spaces, offering flexibility for private or group dining.

For those seeking celestial inspiration, the "Stars" teppanyaki rooms feature lighter tiles and dynamic layouts, while the VIP dining room, inspired by the moon’s glow, provides an intimate setting with a round table and ambient circular lighting.
Beyond its stunning design, MINATO offers a curated selection of Japanese art and minimalist materials, enriching the dining experience. Lighting maestro Tino Kwan adds a poetic touch, enhancing the serene atmosphere with masterful illumination.
