Next in the series are the picks of Joanne Pereira, interior designer and founder of design boutique Eclectic Cool, which offers up furniture, home ware, art pieces and gifts discerningly sourced from a variety of brands. She shares her favourite spots in Sau Wa Fong and its environs, where the boutique-slash-design-office is based.

Jouer

What began as a macaron shop has evolved into a gift and art showcase.  It’s a fun place to hang out with a cup of tea and, of course, a macaron. You’ll impress your friends by knowing its discreet, off-the-beaten-track location.

It’s definitely not cheap, but everything in this store is handmade and has an understated luxury. The leather quality is top notch and the pieces are embellished with small details such as stitching and beadwork. Every morning I walk by and salivate over the handmade butterfly chair in the window.  I daren’t ask how much it costs.

Odd One Out

This is where I recommend my interior design clients go to pick up inexpensive but stylish prints for their gallery wall. They also stock a great range of graphic cards, small gifts and zines. There is a cafe in the back which is my go to place when I don’t want to be found!

Blue Door Yoga Studio

Run by Sandrine, a French expat, this studio is very exclusive and small but offers a wide range of classes for all skill levels. I love the serene atmosphere of this studio and its contemplative space.

Le Labo

Hand mixed perfume, candles and skincare products are the staple of this understated luxury brand from New York.  I love the aesthetic and concept of this brand. My husband thinks the Amber fragrance is the sexiest ever.

Monocle Store

This store fronts the Monocle Hong Kong outpost and is a tightly curated selection of products by top brands created exclusively for the magazine. I love the simply designed store with Vitsoe shelving and the Japanese inspired screening. This is a great place for presents for the man in your life. You can pick up back issues and Monocle books here as well.

Vein

This clothing shop stocks pieces for men and women by Swedish brands such as Malene Birger and Hasbeens, as well as jewellery designs that make great presents. You can also pick up products by skin care brand L:A Bruket here.
