This minimalist Kowloon City home by Haven Design Ltd. radiates open and light-filled vibes.
Client Brief
The homeowner prioritised plenty of storage. “They wanted an open and transparent feel,” said Mary Wong, founder of Haven Design.
“With large floor-to-ceiling windows bringing in lots of natural light, they preferred a colour scheme with light tones such as soft greys or pale woods to enhance the sense of space while keeping the environment bright and welcoming.”

Concept & Style
The design concept is based upon minimalism and lightness, embracing simple lines and soft colours while avoiding excess materials or intricate details to maintain a calm and clean aesthetic.
Challenges
The main challenge was how to significantly increase storage capacity without making the space feel cramped or closed in. Finding the right balance between practicality and spaciousness was the most difficult part.

Solutions
The apartment is governed by light colours and materials. For tall cabinets, white doors matching the ceiling were used to create an illusion of extension, reducing the visual bulk of the units.
Wong added: “We also took advantage of the 10.5-foot ceiling height by building upwards to add extra storage, which improves functionality without taking up floor space. It leaves the room feeling open and uncluttered.”

Tips
- To maximise natural light and create a peaceful vibe, avoid using too many contrasting colours or materials. Monochrome schemes or timber accents help brighten the space and add warmth.
- Adding textured tiles to the bathroom wall can add visual interest and character, breaking the monotony.
- For flooring, consider herringbone wooden floors to visually enlarge the space.Utilise large floor-to-ceiling windows by incorporating the window sills as functional areas such as desks, extra storage or display benches to maximise every inch for both practicality and style.
