A multi-generational sanctuary by Liquid Interiors that blends jewel-toned luxury with cultural heritage and mountain vistas.

Client Brief

A multi-generational family in the jewellery industry sought to create a home that could be shared by grandparents and their son’s growing family. “Due to their business nature, they are often travelling and this home is a base for them as well as a gathering place for the extended family to stay and connect,” explains Rowena Gonzales, founder of Liquid Interiors. “They were looking for a luxurious space that represents their cultural preferences, vibrant personalities and also luxury taste.”

Concept & Style

The design blends jewellery-inspired details with upscale, hotel-like aesthetics and Shanghainese influences, reflecting the family’s multicultural lifestyle. “The jewellery box – luxurious, colourful, playful and elegant” defines the overall atmosphere.

Challenges

“The biggest challenge was creating a hidden prayer area at the entrance that could seamlessly integrate with the design,” Gonzales explained. The solution required careful engineering to ensure the spiritual space remained both beautiful and functional while maintaining the home’s sophisticated aesthetic.

Solutions

The five-bedroom, six-bathroom layout, maximises the mountain-facing location with arched bi-folding doors that highlight the fantastic views. “We took this area to heart and aligned the panels so that a hidden door could slide open with the wave of a hand to uncover their prayer area. As spirituality is at the heart of their wellbeing, we put a lot of effort into making sure this area is beautiful, brings a sense of joy and enlightenment with the glowing lighting effect and is still humble.”

The living room features jewel tones, curved sofas, powder blue Italian pendant lights, and a marble-patterned feature wall with a fireplace. The entertainment room showcases an emerald green chaise longue that can be converted to a sofa bed facing a cinema-scale television. The staircase, topped with a skylight, transforms into what Gonzales calls “a peaceful journey” during daylight hours. “We wanted to make the experience of going up and down the storeys a special experience.”

The grandparents’ suite commands the entire second floor with oriental motifs, stork-adorned feature walls, and a vibrant burnt orange king-size bed reflecting Chinese heritage. The emerald green kitchen boasts top-of-the-line appliances and a waterfall island, while a second kitchen features fluted glass wall cabinets and crystal pendant lights over a curved marble island for casual gatherings.

Tips

  • A standout main door adds a lot of personality to a development where every house looks the same. It helps to set the tone. Metal embossing has been used for the door in this project.
  • In the living room, the team created a feature fireplace as a focal point that also acts as a very large storage space. Storage does not have to look like cabinet doors; make it a feature.
  • Personalise your client’s home right, and your colour scheme will match your client’s outfits when they move in. The clients for this project had very colourful personalities. Always dressed in vibrant colours and loved colourful artwork. The design team made sure there was a balance of colour and also a lack of colour to bring focus when needed, and to also act as a backdrop to their artwork.
  • Understand your client’s practices that bring them wellbeing. Get those areas right and their home will bring much more to them than just a showcase. In this case, spiritual wellbeing was a main priority.
