Classic French aesthetics meet modern practicality in this 700 sq.ft Causeway Bay retreat for two, conceived by Inch. Interior Design.

CONCEPT & STYLE
Taking inspiration from monochromatic French interiors, Zeno Lo, co-founder and director of Inch. Interior Design, fused classical elements with a modern artistic sensibility. The design relies on a black-and-white palette, with black grounding the space in sophistication and white enhancing its openness. The result is a style that mirrors the homeowners’ personalities and daily rhythms.
CHALLENGES
One of the biggest hurdles was overcoming the client’s limited perception of the space’s potential. “When clients aren’t clear about the design direction or underestimate their space’s possibilities, we focus on extensive early communication,” Lo explains. “We analyse the feasibility of each proposal and present the pros and cons so they can better understand the outcomes and limitations.”
SOLUTIONS
Lo and the team focused on maximising the apartment’s inherent strengths. For instance, the male homeowner was initially hesitant about an open kitchen. Through detailed discussions and functional analysis, the team demonstrated how an open layout would improve spatial flow and create a more airy, cohesive environment. Ultimately, the homeowners embraced the idea, showcasing how professional expertise and guided communication can unlock new design possibilities.
Tips
- Gain deep insights into the client’s lifestyle and preferences during the initial phase. This allows for a targeted design approach that aligns with their needs.
- Use consistent tones, materials, and details throughout the home to create a cohesive, yet dynamic aesthetic.
- Emphasise the unique architectural features, such as open layouts or structural elements, to turn them into focal points that elevate the overall design.
