1. Open plan
Kitchens increasingly becomes more than places to cook and eat – they are fit for socialising, Zoom calls, and even study sessions as we embrace work-from-home lifestyles in the wake of the pandemic. Because of this, the so-called kitchen triangle – the area where the stove, refrigerator, and sink are all positioned for maximum efficiency – is being phased out in favour of more open-concept spaces.
2. Colourful accents
Colours are enjoying a resurgence. With so many of us spending an increasing amount of time in our kitchens since the pandemic, there's a strong desire to personalise this place. The mix of matte and high gloss surfaces, as well as a strong, contrasting colour scheme, can infuse the room with character and charm.

Lighting ideas for the kitchen are getting brighter as well to get in line with new technologies and our changing habits. Today's designers are illuminating kitchens to improve our mood, productivity and looks. Naturally harsh task lighting is taking a backseat.

Storage has always been important in the kitchen, and its relevance has expanded over time as kitchens have evolved to serve numerous tasks in the home – a trend that’s all the rage right now as we emerge from the pandemic. With all the new gadgets and supplies we've accumulated, it’s almost imperative to keep everything in order.
5. In with the tile backsplash
A backslash refers to the kitchen wall material, and they are making a comeback to the kitchen. Vintage, custom or store-bought tiles can easily spruce up the cooking area. Like other major developments in interior design this year, there is also a tendency to a more natural, handcrafted look and feel.
