Concept & Style

Informed by nature, the design draws on the shadows of leaves and the sparkle of water to create a calming and layered atmosphere. Ada Leung, founder of Adapa Architects, explained: “We took cues from the movements of the trees and ripples, using soft colours and textured materials to evoke a sense of serenity – especially capturing the quiet beauty of sunset moments.”

Challenges

Leung points out two primary challenges. First, with a ceiling height of just 2.65 metres, careful planning was needed to avoid a cramped feeling. Second, maximising views of the sea and mountains while ensuring ample storage and practicality required a thoughtful approach.

Solutions

To make the low ceilings feel more spacious and ensure good lighting, Leung said: “We used a gypsum ceiling with adjustable spotlights, limiting the height drop to just 9.5 centimetres. We incorporated custom light troughs with linear uplights next to the structural beams to create a gentle, layered illumination that adds depth.”

The apartment benefits from large floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning mountain and sea vistas. Functionality was also a priority. “We designed a sliding mirror behind the wardrobes so they don’t block the views, and concealed two additional wardrobes within the walls, finished with subtle textured wallpaper finish that invites gentle touches.” Storage has been discreetly integrated along the walls, with textured wallpapers adding visual warmth. Recessed niches and shelves help maintain an open and airy feel, allowing the home to “breathe” much like nature itself.
