Tips from designers, Art Holmes and Debi Yeung-Salansy:
Brighten soft furnishings and window dressings with pops of colours
Stainless steel sinks are hardwearing and timeless
Save space in the kitchen by installing 50cm deep cabinets
Fit cabinets with magic corners and pullout baskets in order to maximise storage space
Tips from designer, Richy Ng:
Consider working with black grouting between tiles. Light coloured grouting will stain and dirt will show through
If space permits, factor in a central island that gives you access from all angles and provides additional storage
In small kitchens, use surfaces and appliances in a logical matter position the sink and prep area close to the fridge, with the sink easily accessible from your cooktop
Design Dilemmas
Problem: I have got a long, narrow kitchen. How do I make the most of the layout?
Solution: With this type of galley kitchen, it makes sense to place countertops and cabinets along the sides of the room. Keep the space from feeling oppressive by using under-counter cabinets on both sides, with wall cabinets on one side and open wall shelves on the other. Paint the wall behind the shelves in a slightly deeper shade of your overall colour scheme, and fit the underside of cabinets at eye-height or above with LEDs. This will enhance the sense of space.
