This tailored, functionality-focused design results in a minimal yet elegant 2,264 sq. ft. residence at 10 LaSalle in Ho Man Tin, conceived by ADO CASA.
CHALLENGES
The project presented significant complexity. “Due to the intricate original structure and the homeowner’s specific requirements for each area’s purpose, the design had to transform several workers’ quarters into a kitchen, utility room, and storage spaces,” said ADO CASA designer Wilson Lo. “The areas also needed to retain the possibility for flexible future renovations, whilst meeting exacting standards for floor finishing, electrical outlet positioning, and material detailing.”
The project demanded a careful balance between practical functionality and precise workmanship, whilst the overall scheme had to incorporate extensive equipment and storage solutions without compromising on the clean and organised aesthetic.
CONCEPT & STYLE
The overall design approach was “modern minimalism”, featuring clean lines and neutral tones to create a fresh, practical and high-quality living environment. The thoughtful use of concealed storage, pure materials, lighting, and circulation ensure a comfortable and fluid living experience.
SOLUTIONS
The design team employed digital modelling software and three- dimensional visualisation to map out the spatial arrangements, working closely with the client to establish which functions took priority. Lo added: “Ultimately, we adopted a modular design approach combined with a strategy that built in flexibility for the future, which successfully tackled both the structural complexities and the varied requirements.
“We ensured neat edge finishing where floor sections met, and positioned electrical outlets with precision, guaranteeing that any subsequent layout changes wouldn’t compromise the overall structure or functionality.”
Tips
- The wood elements throughout the space – from the cabinets and doors to the wall finishes – maintain a unified material language, creating a visual continuity and overall cohesive aesthetic.
- Large-format floor tiles in the living room provide a durable, easy-to-clean surface that also adds a sense of solidity and sophistication, catering to both everyday living and guest reception requirements.
- Capitalise on a home’s elongated proportions, strategic use of lighting, horizontal lines and storage configurations to accentuate a sense of openness and smooth circulation.
- Using carefully selected metal trims and marble surfaces, such as on the dining table and kitchen cabinetry, adds a touch of sophistication and luxury to the space.
- Timeless, high-quality materials that combine visual appeal and long-term performance, such as matte surface finishes, scratch-resistant wood veneers and premium tiles, ensure lasting beauty and functionality.
