There are three things Nancy Gabriel particularly loves about the Beirut apartment she shares with her husband Salim and their three children. The first is the volume – it measures nearly 6,000sqft and has a ceiling height of more than 13 feet – while the others are the ample natural light and the gorgeous views of the Mediterranean. There are also vistas over the rest of the city; sometimes when Salim goes on a business trip, she and the kids watch from the window in the dining area as his plane takes off. When I wake up, I don’t even have to get out of bed,” she says. Even when I’m lying down, I can see the sea and the sky.”

Nancy’s apartment is on the 27th floor of a high-rise in the Achrafieh area; its design was initially conceived by her husband before they met. Keen for an open loft-like feel, he had enlisted the help of local interior designer Gregory Gatserelia to create a luxurious bachelor pad. In the early years of their marriage, the couple changed very little in the flat. However, after the birth of their daughter Romane, they decided it was time to make their home more conducive to family living, so they created bedrooms for the kids, and separated both the kitchen and sleeping quarters from the living room with solid walls. She also set about redecorating the space, with yet more help from Gregory. That’s when things started to become really interesting,” notes the designer. I was knocked away by her choices. They were just magnificent.”
