WeWork has opened its third outpost in Hong Kong, adding to locations in Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, and bringing even more momentum to the co-working trend sweeping across cities worldwide.

Located in Tai Koo‘s Cityplaza Three, the new location occupies 54,000sqft spread over four floors, providing panoramic harbour views for over 1,000 desks. The main inspiration underpinning the vibrant interiors was iconic kung fu artist Bruce Lee’s famous be like water” quote, which helped WeWork’s in-house design team navigate the difficulties presented by irregular floor plans, all the while taking into account the unbeatable vistas of the surrounding cityscape.

The result of this design philosophy are workspaces that emphasise flexibility while, on a more symbolic level, paying homage to the strength and adaptive character of the Hong Kong people,” as the official statement reads. To this end, the co-working space offers everything from single-desk rooms for freelancers and private offices for small and medium-sized enterprises, all the way up to spaces big enough to house large corporations.

The common areas are vibrantly coloured, filled with art pieces and installations by local artists, and custom-made carpets that fill the interiors with bright, primary colours. Nods to traditional Hong Kong cultural icons are numerous and scattered throughout – authentic Cantonese tiling, cha chaan teng-inspired booth seating, and red pendant lights resembling the type so often found in wet markets.

Neon signs also prove to be eye-catching additions – one that hangs behind the terrazzo reception desk depicts a lit box of matches emblazoned with Hong Kong” alluding to the start-up nature of WeWork; while another uses Cantonese onomatopoeia to enliven the ping pong matches that happen in its vicinity.

Central to the theme of connection and cooperation that is the company ethos, a vivid internal staircase (in hues that would make Memphis Group pioneer Ettore Sottsass blush) links two of the floors, serving as a natural meeting point for serendipitous encounters and the exchange of ideas.
