The world-renowned international trade show Maison&Objet is set to make its debut in Hong Kong. As part of the DesignInspire creative design expo, it will be hosting two big events - the "Maison&Objet Design Factory" and "Hong Kong Design on Stage". This marks a major milestone for the design industry.

First Collaboration with Maison&Objet

As one of the top international trade shows in the world, the Paris-based Maison&Objet fair is renowned for its focus on international design, home decor and lifestyle. Maison&Objet holds two annual shows in Paris, attracting over 70,000 visitors and 2,500 exhibitors from more than 150 countries. This year, with the support of the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) of the Hong Kong government, Maison&Objet will host two special events - Maison&Objet Design Factory and Hong Kong Design on Stage - as part of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s DesignInspire creative design expo. These events will be held from December 5-7, 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

DesignInspire is an annual event that celebrates Hong Kong's vibrant culture and creativity. This year, the exhibition's theme is Design for a Better Tomorrow, reflecting a focus on envisioning a better future. Coinciding with DesignInspire, Maison&Objet will debut its dual events in Hong Kong. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of Maison&Objet, adding further significance to the exhibition, adding an extra layer of significance to the overall exhibition.

Experience the Latest Designs in an Immersive Showcase

The Maison&Objet Design Factory' exhibition at DesignInspire will showcase the latest design innovations through an immersive, hands-on experience. It will highlight the emerging Conscious Design approach, with a strong emphasis on circularity, sustainable materials and end of life solutions. The exhibition will be presented in an engaging, immersive way that encourages responsible environmental stewardship.

The 'Maison&Objet Design Factory' exhibition features five distinct zones. The 'Nature, the Muse!' zone is curated by Chinese contemporary designer Jiang Qiong'er, and will bring together 12 French and 8 Chinese artisans to explore the intersection of heritage and modern design in both the eastern and the western cultures. The other zones include Conscious Staging, Precious Matters, Shades of Sustainability and Terra Cosmos: A Space Filled with Future Hope. Across these five zones, the exhibition has gathered over 120 leading brands and designers from Asia and Europe, as well as 21 renowned international master craftspeople to participate.

In collaboration with the Alliance Française de Hong Kong, Maison&Objet will also be presenting the 'Hong Kong Design on Stage' exhibition. This showcase will feature the works of 10 exceptional Hong Kong-based designers, including designs from eight local studios that previously won the Maison&Objet Hong Kong competition, including Studio Yellowdot, Studio-Ryte, Monica Tsang Designs Limited and BEAU Architects. The exhibition has also invited renowned Hong Kong designer and architect Otto Ng and celebrated designer Michael Young, to give presentations on-site.

The “Hong Kong Design on Stage” Showcase pavilion is designed by the creative team at LAAB, under architect Otto Ng. This pavilion is designed around a circular theme, symbolising harmony and unity. The exhibition not only showcases the designers' exceptional creativity, but also invites the audience to engage in deeper dialogue about conscious modern living.
