Late German designer Karl Lagerfeld may be gone, but his inimitable style lives on through the latest homage to Lagerfeld, a luxurious five-star hotel in Macau designed by the fashion legend himself.

The Karl Lagerfeld, which just opened, boasts 271 keys and is a part of the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort. What sets this hotel apart is that it is the world's first and only hotel that was entirely designed by Lagerfeld himself. Famous for his remarkable precision and attention to detail as the creative force behind Fendi and Chanel, Lagerfeld devoted years to meticulously designing every aspect of the hotel's interiors.

As you step into the lobby of The Karl Lagerfeld Macau, a beautiful reception wall covered in over a thousand keys arranged in a unique KARL Kameo artwork is sure to catch your eye. The hotel tower is also home to specially-made Chinese-style porcelain vases, handcrafted in Jingdezhen. The tallest vase, a whopping 3.5 metres high, stands tall and proud in the hotel lobby.

Each of the 271 rooms and suites showcases Lagerfeld's inimitable style, from the custom-made furniture to the circular room dividers that draw inspiration from traditional Chinese moon gates. The rooms' decor feature a blend of Chinoiserie-inspired elements like cherry blossom wall designs and Western art deco motifs. The custom-designed headboards have hints of Western contemporary design amidst inspiration drawn from Ming-style "official's hat" chairs and lucky Chinese coins that symbolise great fortune.

The 361-square-metre Book Lounge draws inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld's extensive home library in Paris and serves as a modern reinterpretation of a classical Salon de Thé. Housing a collection of 4,000 real books sourced from 7L, Lagerfeld's own bookshop, the space is impressively furnished with items chosen by the designer to reflect his personal interests.
