Spanning from around 1933 to 1965, and peaking in the 1950s, mid-century modern style is chic and contemporary, albeit timeless. Its immaculate aesthetic and subdued elegance leave no question as to why it is still so blazingly popular. After having a wander around town hunting for the best pieces, we’ve rounded up our picks of five stores offering the hippest mid-century modern furniture collections in the city. After visiting, you will find there’s no shortage of supply in Hong Kong.

Amelie & Tulip
Taking up residence in Sheung Wan’s Tai Ping Shan Street area – an exotic and funky hipster-hood, Amelie & Tulip is the authorized dealers of &Tradition, Artek, Boewer, Brionvega, Carl Hansen & Son, Fritz Hansen, Georg Jensen, Iittala, Oyyo, Pulpo and Stellar Works. The Scandinavian design boutique also boasts a variety of handpicked vintage furniture and contemporary art. With an intown store on Star Street, mainly selling tableware from Finnish brands Iittala and Arabia, a 6000sqft furniture showcase next to Ocean Park, and a shop in shop at Harbour City’s Page One Bookstore, Manks has been featuring the finest in Scandinavian design furniture, lighting art and decorate items for almost two decades. 3/F, The Factory, 1 Yip Fat Street, Wong Chuk Hang; tel 2522 2115, manks.com/
