Carving out moments of peace and quiet is key to a fulfilling life, and this 2,780 square foot home in Tuen Mun's Jade Grove estate provides just that. Crafted by the skilled team at Hei Design Interiors, this four-story abode comes complete with a private garden and a rooftop retreat amidst the bustling cityscape.

The homeowner, who prioritised personal space and family gatherings, had a clear vision for the home’s new design. His first priority was to enhance the luxurious atmosphere and address any existing layout issues to better meet the family's daily needs. Additionally, he wanted to create a home that would offer family members both individual space for solitude and areas to come together for shared activities. This entailed the creation of four rooms that catered to the needs and preferences of the six individuals in the family. The shared spaces, including the dining room, living room, and staircase, were designed in a luxurious style.

The original kitchen was too small and ill-equipped to accommodate the female homeowner's daily cooking needs, prompting the family to dismantle the helper's room in order to expand the kitchen space. After restructuring the layout, the kitchen underwent a makeover with a semi-open design, featuring U-shaped kitchen cabinets and an island counter.

Open Kitchen

Ken Leung, the Design Director of Hei Design Interiors, said: "To link the kitchen and dining room, the kitchen door was expanded to a width of 5 feet, and a louvred glass folding door was installed to allow sunlight from the kitchen to filter into the dining room, which is far away from the window. The distinct texture of the louvred glass enhances the elegance of both spaces, drawing attention.

The original staircase entrance in the dining room was not very practical, so by changing the direction of the stairs, the dining room space was better utilized and the flow of movement up and down the stairs was improved. Additionally, changing the direction of the guest restroom entrance avoided having the restroom door facing the dining room directly, which could affect the overall aesthetics.

Ken added, “We chose a suspended staircase design with a pebble and marble platform, along with light diffusion effects, to make the first step wider and give it a grand and impressive appearance. Next to the staircase are tall display cabinets crafted from wood strips, glossy marble and shiny stainless steel. These diverse materials come together to create a visually striking display."

Furthermore, Ken took inspiration from a Maldivian vacation home to create a space that emits a relaxed and refined ambiance. The dining room features a three-dimensional ceiling reaching a height of 3.5 metres, exuding grandeur. The floors in the dining room, kitchen, and staircase landing are adorned with intricately textured "Arctic Ocean" marble, treated with a leather finish to achieve a matte effect and a unique, luxurious feel.
