Inspired by Versailles, this abode by POCKET SQUARE Ltd. brings the savoir-faire of Parisian living into everyday life.

Client Brief
Dubbed “A Parisian Home”, this project took its cues from the owner’s memorable visit to the Palace of Versailles in Paris. Drawn to its intricate interiors from Louis XIV’s time, the family looked to reflect that timeless elegance in their own home with an authentic Parisian flair.

Concept & Style
Inspired by Versailles, the home is governed by white throughout. The design team studied details from the palace’s library and hall of mirrors, replicating elements such as the door frames and curtains in detail. The entrance hall features a French window-like mirror that doubles as a shoe cabinet.
The dining room’s vintage mirror, selected in Paris by the owners, has been paired with a customised fireplace housing an electric heater. The black marble flooring near the fireplace echoes traditional Parisian interiors.

Challenges
At just 1,400 square feet, the space is relatively compact. The challenge was to integrate plenty of hidden storage without compromising the classical aesthetic, while capturing the grandeur of Versailles.
Frankie Wong and Sean Li, co-founders of POCKET SQUARE, said: “We carefully crafted every detail from the walls to the ceiling, using French-made plasterwork materials from Auberlet & Laurent to recreate the exquisite craftsmanship of French classicism.”

Solutions
The design combines form and function, discreetly hiding storage in the finest details. Wong noted: “The brass floral mirror in the hallway actually conceals the shoe storage. Behind the feature wall in the dining area is a wine cabinet, while the decorative pillars beside the TV are hidden storage for less frequently used items.”
The lighting continues the classical motif, mainly with concealed indirect light sources. “Versailles’ ceilings avoid spotlights so we embedded LED strips within the mouldings to provide both illumination and visual harmony, without disturbing the ceiling detail.”

Tips
-
Utilise a hidden storage design to retain only truly important items, creating breathing space and order.
-
Invest in worthwhile furniture, considering sustainability during purchasing, to fill the space with warmth and stories.
- Adjust plaster ceiling designs according to space function. For common areas such as living and dining rooms, which are occupied for longer periods, designs can be more intricate and larger in scale, while bedrooms may feature a more subdued design, creating a quiet and comfortable atmosphere.
