In a quiet Bengaluru neighbourhood, this 4,300-square-foot residence, conceived by The Furr Studio, places craftsmanship and local materials at the heart of its concept, creating a space that is functional, sustainable, and deeply connected to its surroundings.  

With a focus on material authenticity, the design integrates traditional techniques with modern sensibilities. From the layered textures of the facade to the custom-crafted entry door, every detail reflects an appreciation for regional craftsmanship and natural resources. The landscaping complements this ethos, creating a seamless transition from the public space into a home that balances understated elegance with practicality.  

The ground floor is a series of interconnected spaces, all defined by a commitment to material integrity. The living room is a warm and inviting area where natural light highlights the use of locally sourced wood, handcrafted furniture, and textured wall finishes. Every element has been carefully chosen to enhance the tactile and visual qualities of the space while maintaining durability and functionality.  

The dining area continues this focus, with a solid wood table anchoring the room. Its raw, natural finish is paired with curated art and soft lighting, reinforcing the home’s emphasis on craftsmanship and comfort. Nearby, the kitchen is both practical and beautiful, featuring natural stone countertops, custom cabinetry, and brass accents. Designed with efficiency in mind, it balances artisanal detail with modern usability.  

The upper levels house the more private areas of the residence, designed to harmonise with the overall material palette. The master bedroom is calm and spacious, with bespoke furniture, handcrafted textiles, and large windows that bring in natural light while ensuring energy efficiency. The ensuite bathroom mirrors this approach, with stone finishes and a focus on clean, functional design.  

The additional bedrooms keep the same thoughtful approach, with multifunctional furniture and smart storage solutions that make them practical without losing the home’s sense of style. A secondary lounge area on this floor bridges the gap between private and communal, offering a relaxed spot to hang out or unwind, complete with access to a semi-open balcony.  

At the very top, the terrace has been transformed into a private oasis. Thoughtful landscaping with native plants keeps things cool and green, while seating areas made from natural materials invite you to slow down and enjoy the view. Whether it’s a quiet morning coffee or a casual evening gathering, this space feels like an extension of the home’s laid-back, thoughtful vibe. 

Locally sourced materials, such as wood and stone, reduce the environmental impact while supporting regional artisans and traditional techniques. Passive cooling strategies, including cross-ventilation, deep-set windows, and textured walls, reduce reliance on mechanical systems, ensuring the interiors remain comfortable throughout the year.
