It was once an awkward, split-level home

It’s hard to believe that this seaside haven was once old and rundown, but Primocasa Interiors Ltd has the photos to prove it.

Before the massive renovation, the six-storey home – which also has two additional levels of open-air rooftop space – was difficult to navigate, let alone live in, due to its dark corridors and enclosed staircase. Years of neglect and water damage had also left the home in a dilapidated state. Scroll through the gallery below (Styling: Tessa Matthews; Photography: Edgar Tapan) to discover more about the stunning transformation

“It was built 40 years ago and the current owner bought it in an ‘as is’ condition,” says Primocasa’s managing director, Andy Wong. It proved to be a challenging project, taking the team a year to complete, but the result is a stunning space that brings the outdoors in through smart and stylish solutions.

One of these clever solutions was the open staircase, which Andy adorned with vertical slats in a mirror finish, so that light would diffuse through the space. The home has eight flights of stairs, so bringing light into this area was one of Andy’s main considerations.

It was equally important to enlarge the existing space allocated to each level of the home, and Primocasa did this by combining indoor and outdoor spaces. On the first floor, the entrance level, the design firm created a slick lounge and reading area that faces a large window overlooking the pool and a waterfall feature. “It’s the only house in the entire building complex that has a pool, and we wanted to show it off,” says Andy.

Upstairs, Primocasa installed folding glass doors, in order to extend the living room out to a grassy yard. This creates an outdoor lounge area that is decorated with pretty landscaping and, in the evenings, dramatic mood lighting.

The garden is also connected to the pool via a flight of stairs, making this outdoor zone an easy, natural relaxation area for the homeowners, who are now retired, and a special treat for visiting guests – especially the owners’ grandchildren.

Also located on the upper floors are two bedrooms, including the master en suite, and a spacious study. The study houses the couple’s priceless Chinese antiques – a collection Andy was tasked with showcasing.

“Their antiques are the focus of the room, so our neutral yet stylish decor acts as a canvas to show them off,” says Andy. “And we designed really good lighting and display shelves, too.”

The home’s real crown jewel is its split-level rooftop. Here, there’s a bar that makes for the perfect place in which to sip sundowners and spot beach goers. There’s also an upper lounge area, which benefits from breathtaking views.

Primocasa has transformed the once awkward layout into a functional and fabulous residence. And in doing so, they’ve managed to build a dream home in which the owners can enjoy their golden years together.
