Copenhagen-based OEO Studio unveils a 200-sq.m. luxury apartment at the Opus Arisugawa Terrace & Residence in central Tokyo.

The interiors reflect the studio’s dexterity in merging Japanese and Scandinavian influences, reinterpreting them in new ways to create a discerning residence for a private Japanese client.

The minimal aesthetic manifests through warm and tactile materials. The use of zoning, for instance, cultivates an evocative yet calming sense of movement through the space. With its subtle greenish tone, the Japanese Oya stone on columns furthers the natural transitioning between the living area and the open kitchen.

At the entryway, a sculptural-shaped rammed earth is revealed on the walls, representing a centuries-old technique that brings the outdoors in. The hallway leads directly into the living room adorned in paper rugs and an inlay of stone. It’s furnished in pieces handpicked by OEO Studio, including furniture pieces from the likes of Gubi, Stellar Works and Brdr. Krüger, as well as custom-made design pieces and curated wall artworks by Finnish artist Jaakko Mattila and Danish photographer Søren Rønholt.

The kitchen is designed by OEO Studio and crafted in Denmark by fellow Danish brand Garde Hvalsøe, which specialises in quality handcrafted cabinetry. The apartment is also home to two master bedrooms: one with a darker and the other with a lighter expression.
