Motivated by the day-to-day lifestyle of the owner, this homely abode located in Ho Chi Minh City is the manifestation of one’s comfort and essential needs.

Instead of using decorations as a device to characterise a home, Vietline Interior Design wanted to let the artistic furniture and colour scheme itself do the honour for Ninesouth Villa. “The request from our client was actually very straightforward,” shared Trương Gia Việt, the principal architect of Ninesouth Villa. The goal for this three-storey construction was to simply showcase its charms and elegance through everyday living.

Even though the potential of this 3,229-sq.ft. space allows an array of ideas, both the architect and client decided to keep things sophisticated and simple, using minimal lines and shapes to contour the house elegantly. As a result, the subtle silhouettes and neutral taupe palette combined fill every corner with a sense of tranquillity and tenderness.

The lounge is on the left side of the foyer, positioned right next to the dining area with a divider separating the two zones. The wooden dual-functional partition also serves as a platform for the television to be integrated. The contrast between the dark wooden divider and the soft-edged beige sofa in the living room modishly compliment one another. Trương uses angular geometrical furniture in keeping with the soft, neutral colour palette as a way to beautify the house.

Behind the living room is the kitchen area. Trương chose clear-cut marble countertops and has all the kitchen appliances tucked into the cabinets of the pantry area. The bay window above the sink allows natural light to flow from the small garden into the kitchen, giving the space a sense of romance.

Across from the kitchen is a nook that faces the backyard with a large window that almost replaces the wall. The ample sunlight on a good day or rain drops on windows from a bad day creates the perfect atmosphere to cosy up with a book.

Moving onto the second floor, the master bedroom includes a bathroom and a walk-in closet, occupying the entire level. Trương uses plenty of curved shapes for walls and doors to seamlessly connect the three areas without breaking points. Not having any solid walls gives the sleeping area a relaxing, gentle atmosphere. One would think that with lesser furnishing, the space left might be left with a sense of absence, but this is intentional to allow space for the lively movements of the people who inhabit this home.

Ceppo di Gré tiles, a type of modest stoneware consisting of various pebbles, are once again seen across the bathroom after being used as the flooring material in the bedroom area. Dimmed ambient lights hidden in the plaster ceiling, at the sides of the vanity mirrors, illuminate the bathroom while creating a spa-like environment.

Last but not least, is the children’s room. An outer space theme and brighter color choices are used for a more exciting and friendly environment. A stellar system artwork is painted on the ceiling, with a moon hanging from the ceiling light, an astronaut and an alien figure decorating the space. Facing the twin beds are the closets and a round arch that leads to the second bedroom. The two sides of the sleeping area are divided by a sliding door, giving privacy when needed.

The individualistic design of this project landed Trương Gia Việt and Vietline Interior Design a place on Vietnam’s Top 10 Houses Awards và Top 10 Interior Designs Awards 2021.
