Ryan Korban broke out into the design scene with his singular brand of luxury, with a highly polished and tactile mix of Versailles meets modernism.
In his world, intricate gilt mirrors and bronze figurative sculptures co-exist with linear sofas and geometric tables.
Elsewhere, zebra and peacock taxidermy mingles with sculptural shagreen and parchment chairs; and plush silk curtains are set against graphic marble patterns.

With his distinct eye and way with materials, he was soon designing stores for big name brands, most famously the Balenciaga and Alexander Wang stores in New York that became the very definition of sexy and cool.
Ryan discusses the evolution of his style and what the future has in store.
I naturally think without constraint – albeit, not always successfully. Yet whether it’s through colour palette, materials, architecture, or mood, I’m always trying to push things beyond the norm. Can I turn that flat ceiling into a curved one? Can I swathe this whole space in pink? Can we carve a couch out of marble? It’s important to look at things in a new way.
I have always loved the idea of environment and aesthetics. I just never knew you could make a living making things beautiful. Realising that was a real eye-opener for me and my career.
I used to be a more-is-more kind of designer, by mixing layers and layers of accessories. I have evolved to become much more pared down. I’ve really edited my work over the years. My love for materials and architecture informs my style. I find so much creative inspiration from both.
As the industry evolves and heads into the future, I see it being much more supportive of youth and innovation. I see it becoming more democratic and I could not be happier about that. The future feels very bright! I’m excited about the direction of the industry, and the endless opportunities it presents.
My new book depicts an evolution of my work and my brand. It’s a graduation in a way. I think it really shows the variety in my work and the wide range of projects we take on.
