When renovating this single-level, 2,691-square-feet house set within a royal estate in the city’s stylish Eixample neighbourhood, Barcelona interior designer firm The Room Studio reconfigured the floor plan to create larger light-filled rooms.

They then furnished these expansive redesigned spaces with warm wooden floors, furniture items with sleek silhouettes, and rugs and textiles in soft, muted shades of blue, green, grey, pink and cream. Scroll through the gallery below (Photography: Mauricio Fuertes) to take a closer look at the meticulous design:

The studio’s founders and lead designers Meritxell Ribé and Josep Puigdomènech furnished the living and reading areas with a Francisco Cumellas rug, a sofa and TV console from Novamobili, a Gervasoni coffee table, a daybed from Artisan, a pouf, armchair and accessories from Nord Interiors, a Carpyen floor lamp, throw cushions from Hay and La Maison, sculptures from Victor Lopes’ gallery, indoor plants from Barcelona outdoor space designers Teodroa Exteriorisme, and The Room Studio custom-designed floor lamps, pots and side tables.

In the dining area, an Artisan table and Novamobili dining chairs are enlivened by round, pebble-like Vibia suspension lamps in pastel green, light and dark grey colours, a framed photograph of a beachscape by Maurico Fuertes, and crystal jars and accents from Brucs and Home Design.

“The dining area was designed to visually dialogue with the kitchen. Here, we included a translucent partition with sliding doors that enable sunlight to enter from the dining to the kitchen,” says Meritxell who designed the kitchen with a wide island counter complimented by Ondaretta stools so it can be used as a breakfast area. Adjacent to the kitchen is a causal dining area with an Ethnicraft dining table, Gubi chairs and Zen-inspired poplar wood Santa & Cole pendant lamp.

“The study was designed as an intimate space with plenty of character,” says Josep who gave this space a masculine, den-like feel with a leather loveseat and two guitars placed in front of a brick wall, floor lamps from Aromas and BSB rugs from Dac Rugs.

In the master bedroom, wood panels on the lower section of one of the wall act as a headboard for a Bonaldo bed. An Ethnicraft cabinet, a La Maison basket, a Nuura bedside table, a Nord Interiors armchair, and a ribbed-pattern, Francisco Cumellas cream-coloured rug were used to imbue the space with a snug, laid-back feel.

Characterful touches, such as the exposed red brick wall in a lounge area and vividly hued soft furnishings, uplift the home with plenty of playfulness.

“The earthy fabrics and soft colours create interiors that an open, honest and down-to-earth. But we used an assortment of art works and included structured furniture and accessories with straight lines to add a touch of sobriety and solidity to the otherwise informal, modern aesthetics of the project. The aim was to create a home that is elegant but relaxed and very livable,” says Meritxell.
