Masterminded by Hong Kong-based photographer and director Wing Shya in collaboration with Mei Ah Entertainment Group and local start-up BEAM+ LAB, the Hong Kong classic movie-themed NFT collectible titled “CRYPTYQUES” is slated for  launch in June.

Created based on Hong Kong films, the “CRYPTYQUES” NFT collectibles are exclusively authorised by Mei Ah Entertainment Group Limited, a Hong Kong entertainment and distribution company that owns the largest number of intellectual property rights for classic Hong Kong movies with an extensive library of over 600 movies.

Curated by creative director Wing Shya, the collection aims to evoke a person's memories and emotions through the medium of Hong Kong cinema. By recreating classic movie moments in the metaverse, the heyday of Hong Kong cinema returns, setting forth a commonality between people and uniting them in the access of collective memories. CRYPTYQUES will be launched in 3 phases: the past, present, and future in the cycle of life.

The first series of the “past” phase will embody each of the 7 emotions – including Desire, Fury, Fear, Joy, Bitterness, Loathe and Love – in the form of a lost memory fragment. The first drop is a collection of 1,320 NFTs of classic Hong Kong movie scenes from the 1980s reflecting the strong emotional yearning of “Desire” which have been recreated as 3D-animated video clips by Shya and an internationally-acclaimed Hollywood production team.

Featured scenes include Tony Leung emerging from the crowd in a nightclub, signaling his character’s yearning for his dream girl in My Heart Is That Eternal Rose (1989), and the half-naked shot of Leslie Cheung in director Patrick Tam’s Nomad (1982).
