This 588-square-foot home incorporates planting and greenery to cater for a pair of retired couple.
The owner of this project is an old couple who has no children and hope to spend the twilight years in their new home. Taking into consideration the couple’s plant placement and worshipping habits, Sim-Plex Design Studio has conceived a cosy home with thoughtful details apt for the silver-haired to enjoy life after retirement.
When designing the layout, the design team worked to ensure ample storage space, while leaving some buffer blank spaces for planting, such as the grey wood veneer hollow space of the full-height shoe cabinet at the entrance; the extra-long TV cabinet in the living room above the white marble countertop. The potted plants echo the outdoor scenery, boost the homeowners’ mood, all the while optimising the air quality.
The older we get, the harder it is for us to move around. With this in mind, the side of the cabinets throughout the house are designed with small arc angles to prevent collisions, including the extra-long white marble countertops in the living room near the entrance. There is also a buffer space for stool between the shoe cabinet and the entrance, so that one can sit down when changing shoes.
The corridor is only equipped with sliding doors in the bathroom, and other rooms are covered with normal doors. This reserves enough space for future wheelchair use. The foyer is floored with Spanish vintage tiles to juxtapose with the long wooden tiles in the living room. Both have the function of anti-slippery and anti-scratching.
