In this new series, we chat with some of the most influential figures in home and design about what they love most about home, their unwinding routines, their favourite part of the house, and everything in between.

For our first installment, we sit down with Dornbracht CEO, Andreas Dornbracht during his recent trip to Hong Kong, and talked about his currently-renovating home in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Can you tell us about some of the Dornbracht fixtures in your home?

We’re going to have mostly Vaia (basin tap), in the new finish. In my wellness area, I’m going to have the Aquamoon (shower) and Horizontal Shower, and in my master bathroom, the Sensory Sky. So I’m more or less fully equipped. (Laughs)

And in the kitchen, I’m going to have our digital kitchen faucet, which will be voice controlled.

Which is your favourite Dornbracht product?

I still think it’s our icon, which is the Tara (faucet). This right now is the favourite, because for Dornbracht, Tara is the icon; the design is now 27 years old. And I think it’s still up to date.

Favourite room in the home and why?

I should say the bathroom (laughs) – but it’s going to be my new library. I love books. I collect books, mostly on contemporary art. I don’t have so much time to visit exhibitions, but I’m always getting the catalogues of the exhibitions worldwide. So I need a big library for all these art books – they’re about a couple of thousand, now. That’s going to be my favourite room – also because it has a fireplace, from 1928.

What type of art do you collect?

Contemporary art, photography, painting. I also collect design products, design art. I’m a collector of Venini vases made in Murano Glass.

Do you like displaying your art around the home?

Part of it – some has to go in a depot, and then they get changed around.

The Dornbracht Aquamoon Can you tell us about your home relaxation and wellness routine?

We’re going to have a big sauna, a treadmill, and a fitness wall from Technogym. I also have this wet room with a Horizontal Shower and Aquamoon. Then we’re going to have a massage bed, to bring in a therapist. So what I foresee is, hopefully, one time per week I’ll get a massage; several times a week I’ll do the steam bath; and everyday I’ll use the fitness wall.

Anyone home essentials you take with you to make your travels more homely?

My toothbrush (laughs). Actually, my slippers from Loro Piana. I don’t have very large feet – size 45 – but all hotel slippers are so small, so I travel with slippers.

Top 3 home appliances you would say are worth investing on?

Number one would be a steamer to steam food. That’s the way I like it – this is why I’ve been coming to Hong Kong all the time.

The second would definitely be our voice-controlled kitchen faucet. And then I think it would be the outdoor whirlpool we’re going to have. We don’t have it now, but it’s going to come.
