Walking through the quiet residential estate of Taikoo, an illuminated hexagonal emblem beams from a column, proudly proclaiming the arrival of The Coffee Academïcs‘ seventh cafe in Hong Kong and its largest premises yet. This branch further bolsters the precinct’s status as a lifestyle hub in Island East and fleshes out TCA’s ambitions to be a purveyor of a way of life that revolves around artisanal coffee.

Spanning 2,000-sq-ft, the outlet’s interior spans a range of influences, from industrial chic to Parisian salon style. A merchandise area takes pride of place at the main entrance, greeting customers as they enter with a range of brewing paraphernalia and globally-sourced coffee beans.

Until March, the Taikoo outlet will also be serving coffee made from the Esmerelda Geisha 601 coffee bean, which became the world’s most expensive coffee when it sold at an auction for a staggering $601 USD per pound. Only five cups will be brewed every day, for $400 HKD per cup.

Against a backdrop of a slatted, curving wall, a display of cold-drip and pour-over coffee apparatus entices customers, alongside hand-picked coffee beans and TCA's in-house blends.

The darker ground floor is dominated by no-fuss concrete walls and white-tiled furnishings.

Orb lighting and an exposed pillar define the service counter.

A wall-mounted stag's head and an illuminated staircase draw the eye towards the upper floor.

The upper floor is styled like a quaint Parisian bistro, with broad-leafed plants and views of the surrounding greenery setting the scene.

Mirrored screen dividers serve to increase the illusion of space.

Marble, wicker, brass and herringbone flooring make up the material vocabulary of the upper floor.
