Bhutan is a place known not only for its mountainous beauty, relatively untouched by the outside world, but also for its status as the happiest place in Asia.

The first three, in Thimphu, Punakha and Paro, opened in March, with Gangtey and Bumthang to follow later in the year.

Designed to give travellers an authentic look inside local culture, Six Senses Bhutan takes inspiration for its spacious interiors from traditional Bhutanese architecture.

The lodges are characterised by simple lines and natural timber furniture. Local elements include the bukharis – traditional wood-burning stoves, and striking vegetable-dyed, antique Himalayan rugs.

As ever in both the development and the running of the lodges, sustainability has been at the heart with active management of energy, water, waste, purchasing and chemical usage.
